As a former owner of one of the Boston properties that had originally belonged to William Lloyd Garrison, the renowned abolitionist, publisher of the anti-slavery newspaper The Liberator, and a figure featured in the book Freedom Road. At a donor event hosted by the National Museum of African American History and Culture, I had the rare privilege of meeting and exchanging stories with three of Garrison’s direct descendants. Connecting across generations through a shared link to such an important chapter of American history was both unexpected and deeply meaningful. It was truly an honor.
